UAE Artificial Intelligence Office and National Programme for AI
The UAE named the world's first Minister of State for AI in 2017. Its AI Office runs national programmes such as the UAE AI Camp for students.
Overview
In October 2017 the UAE became the first country in the world to appoint a Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama. The role was expanded in 2020 to cover the digital economy and remote work applications.
The federal Artificial Intelligence Office coordinates the country's AI strategy, programmes and guidance. Its National Programme for AI runs the UAE AI Camp, which introduces school and university students and the wider public to AI tools and skills, and it has run AI internship programmes with industry partners.
