Where to Study AI in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Dubai

Where to Study AI in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Dubai

Three places in the Middle East are building AI education fast: Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Dubai (with the wider UAE around it). Each has a different mix of universities, research institutes, government bodies and bootcamps, and they differ in something learners rarely check until late: the language of teaching. This guide walks through the main options in each place, says what each one is good for, and tells you where we could not confirm the language.

It is built from our directory of AI institutes in the Middle East, where every entry lists its sources. The directory was last checked on 29 September 2026. It is not a complete list of every programme, and programmes change, so confirm details on the provider's own site before you apply.

A grid of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Dubai and the UAE against four kinds of provider. Qatar: HBKU, CMU-Q, NU-Q and QU; QCRI; no government AI body listed; Aptech Qatar and Qatar AI Institute. Saudi Arabia: KAUST and KFUPM; KACST; SDAIA with SDAIA Academy; Tuwaiq Academy. Dubai and UAE: MBZUAI and Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi; TII in Abu Dhabi; Dubai Centre for AI and the UAE AI Office; Edoxi in Dubai.
Who offers what, from our directory. Several of the UAE's best-known AI institutions are in Abu Dhabi, not Dubai.

A note on language

For AI, English is the working language of most degree programmes in this region, and the textbooks, papers and tools you will use are mostly in English too. Arabic matters in two ways: some programmes and public bootcamps are offered in Arabic, and Arabic itself is a major research topic (Arabic language models, speech and text tools). Below, we state the language only where an official source or reliable report says it. Where we found nothing, we write "not stated" rather than guess.

Qatar

Qatar's AI education is concentrated in Doha's Education City and at Qatar University, with strong research on Arabic language technology.

  • Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU): Qatar Foundation's research university. The route into AI is graduate study: an MS in Data Science and Engineering and a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering. Language: the MS in Data Science and Engineering is taught in English, and applicants need an IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 79 (HBKU programme page).
  • Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q): offers Qatar's first Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence, based on Carnegie Mellon's US degree. It is the main option for school leavers who want an AI-specific undergraduate degree. Language: applicants must show English proficiency through TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo, unless they qualify for a waiver, so expect to study in English.
  • Northwestern University in Qatar (AI² initiative): looks at AI from the media and society side, including deepfakes and misinformation, and runs executive courses such as AI Tools for Digital Content Design. Best for journalists and communication professionals. Language: not stated in the sources we reviewed.
  • Qatar University: KINDI Center: research, workshops and industry training in AI and cybersecurity, including detection of fake news on Arabic social media. Language: Qatar University teaches some colleges in Arabic (business, law, mass communication) and others in English (engineering and science), according to news reports, so check the specific programme.
  • Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI): part of HBKU and home of the Arabic generative AI model Fanar. It offers research positions and internships, not taught courses, so it suits graduates aiming at research. Language: not stated; its Arabic work is a research focus.
  • Aptech Qatar and Qatar AI Institute (AI2Q): training providers for people who want practical skills without a full degree. Aptech offers career courses with an AI and machine learning specialisation. AI2Q, which publishes this site, runs online courses from AI for Everyone to Machine Learning Fundamentals. Language: not stated for Aptech's AI courses.

Our directory lists no Qatari government AI body that runs public training, so for free national-scale training you would look to the Saudi and UAE programmes below.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has the most developed state-led pathway of the three, built around its national data and AI authority.

  • Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) and SDAIA Academy: SDAIA leads the national data and AI agenda under Vision 2030. Its academy, launched in 2021, offers free registration for people aged 18 to 60 and gives accredited certificates. Its programmes include a National Capacity Building Program for data science specialists, a Data and AI Awareness Program, cooperative training for university students, and bootcamps. Its July 2026 summer round had eight programmes, from prompt engineering and responsible AI use for beginners to computer vision and AI agent engineering for professionals, with schedules on SDAIA's Athka X platform. Language: not stated in the sources we reviewed; check the programme page on SDAIA's platform.
  • KAUST: a graduate research university on the Red Sea coast with a Center of Excellence for Generative AI, set up in 2024. KAUST Academy runs an AI Specialization for university students and recent graduates (ages 18 to 30) and an AI summer school. Language: English.
  • KFUPM: its Interdisciplinary Research Center for Intelligent Secure Systems works where AI and cybersecurity meet. Suits graduate students interested in secure AI. Language: not stated in the sources we reviewed.
  • King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST): the national science agency. It runs eight-week hands-on programmes in which Saudi university students build AI and robotics projects in its labs. Language: not stated.
  • Tuwaiq Academy: a Riyadh bootcamp academy, founded in 2019. It reports more than 30,000 graduates and an employment rate above 75% (its own figures). Its AI offering includes a nine-month Data Science and AI diploma with Meta and ten-week AI product-building bootcamps. Language: when it launched its first bootcamps, Arab News reported that technical training would be provided in Arabic or English.

Dubai and the UAE

Dubai itself is strongest on government-led AI adoption and short professional training. The UAE's big AI universities and labs are in Abu Dhabi, a short distance away, so we list both and mark which is which.

  • Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI): launched in June 2023 under the Dubai Future Foundation. It trains government staff in generative AI and runs accelerator programmes for AI startups; the first round drew 615 applications from 55 countries. It is aimed at government employees and startups rather than general students. Language: not stated.
  • UAE Artificial Intelligence Office: the federal body behind the world's first Minister of State for AI (appointed in 2017). Its National Programme for AI runs the UAE AI Camp, which introduces students and the public to AI tools and skills. Language: not stated.
  • Edoxi Training Institute (Dubai): short professional courses in generative AI, prompt engineering, AI agents and machine learning, including a 60-hour AI course offered in Qatar. Language: not stated.
  • MBZUAI (Abu Dhabi): described as the world's first university dedicated entirely to AI, with a BSc in AI from 2025, plus master's and PhD programmes. Language: English.
  • Khalifa University (Abu Dhabi): a BSc in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence and research in robotics and AI. Language: its catalogue says courses are taught and examined in English, apart from courses such as Arabic language.
  • Technology Innovation Institute (TII) (Abu Dhabi): creator of the open-source Falcon language models, including Arabic-focused versions. It offers research roles and internships, and its models are free to download. Language: not applicable to taught courses.

How to choose

Before you apply, check four things: the language of teaching, whether you are eligible (some programmes are limited to citizens, residents or a given age range), whether the credential is a degree, a diploma or a certificate, and the dates, since bootcamps run in rounds.

What to learn first, wherever you study

Whatever you choose, the foundations are the same: Python, the maths behind machine learning, and how models are trained. Our articles on deep learning versus machine learning, logistic regression and transformers are a good way to test whether the subject suits you before committing to a programme. For the career case, see Qatar National Vision 2030 and AI education.
